Today there is an opportunity to use the invasion of the Tiger Salamander to transform Travis AFB into something better, a BIGGER PARK. Something that airmen, the local municipalities, county, citizens, companies, and the Tiger Salamander will all be better off. By so doing, the North Bay will be improved by making Travis AFB a “Bigger Park”. This is similar to El Toro Marine Base in Irvine that was transformed into “Great Park”. In the end, Mother Nature and the Tiger Salamander will win! By following the Salamander’s lead “Everyone gets a share” and wins too.

TIGER SALAMANDER

As you may know the Tiger Salamander has made Travis AFB it’s home. The effort to transform Travis AFB into Bigger Park was really started by our friendly salamander. The wily creature has stopped base operations several times, invaded the base like temporarily closing access to the outdoor track (see pictures), and even known to be found on the base elementary school playground scaring kids! No worries as the Tiger Salamander is not fierce at all.
